You chose WordPress and BuddyBoss to own your community, then ended up patching plugins and chasing slow pages. TribeCrafter runs all of it on one managed platform, and we’ll help you bring your members over for free.
If your week looks like this, you’re not doing it wrong. This is just what running a community on WordPress feels like.
We know, because we lived it. We worked on this exact stack for years, got tired of fighting it, and built TribeCrafter so you don’t have to.
BuddyBoss bundles a lot, but it still runs on WordPress, a theme, LearnDash and a stack of plugins. One update anywhere can break the rest.
A busy community is heavy work for WordPress. You pay for premium hosting and caching, and it still slows down when your members show up.
Every plugin, theme and core update is a security patch you have to apply yourself, on a site anyone can reach.
When something breaks between BuddyBoss, a plugin and your host, each vendor points at the others and answers come slowly.
WordPress is a great blogging and content system. A community is a different job: live feeds, members, messaging, courses and payments, all under constant load.
BuddyBoss is built from two older WordPress plugins, BuddyPress and bbPress, and the seams show in how slow it runs and how often it breaks. TribeCrafter was built as a community platform from the first line of code.
The things you were stitching together with plugins come as one product, built to work together from day one.
Feed, groups, courses, events, blog, member profiles and direct messages, all built in and managed for you.
Sections, lessons, video, progress tracking and completion certificates, without a LearnDash license.
One product means no plugin conflicts, and no updates for you to run on a Friday night.
Sell memberships, courses and access, and get paid directly to your bank account. TribeCrafter takes 0% in platform fees; only Stripe’s standard processing fee applies.
Every community runs on its own database, storage and search, so a busy community somewhere else never slows yours down.
Your own domain, logo and colors, set up without code.
Moving is the part that stops most people, so we do the heavy lifting with you.
Your members and their profiles come over from WordPress and BuddyBoss as part of onboarding.
We move as much of your courses, groups and posts as we can, then review it all with you before you switch.
From the first call to launch day. You’re not handed a wizard and left alone.
Moved from WordPress to TribeCrafter, with every old page URL redirected so existing links and search results still land in the right place.
Runs its courses, groups and articles on TribeCrafter under its own brand and domain, including programs like the 28-Day Breath Training Program.
“Self-hosted” feels free until you total it up.

+ your timeSame goal: a fast, branded community. Two very different ways to get there.
I’ve worked with WordPress for over a decade. I only ran a couple of BuddyBoss communities myself, but I spent plenty of time in their code and their community – and that was enough.
Their own official community told me most of what I needed to know. It was full of people hitting the same walls I was: broken updates, buggy features, slow pages, and support that couldn’t go deep when it mattered. I patched BuddyBoss’s own code a couple of times to get a client out of an urgent jam, and shared the fixes back there.
The speed was the part I couldn’t fix. I’ve won two web performance optimization contests, and even on a dedicated, high-spec server I couldn’t make a BuddyBoss site feel fast. At some point you stop blaming the hosting. WordPress was never built to run a live community.
So I built the platform I wanted back then: fast because it was designed to be, managed so you’re not the sysadmin, and yours – your own data and 0% platform fees. If you’re moving off BuddyBoss, I’ll help you make the switch myself.
Ten years on WordPress, bug fixes in BuddyBoss’s own code for clients, and two web performance contest wins. Tuning it was never enough, so we built the alternative.
BuddyBoss was acquired in 2024 by the WPBeginner Growth Fund (Awesome Motive), and its original founders have moved on. TribeCrafter is bootstrapped with no outside investors, so the roadmap answers to the communities on the platform.
A founder helps you through the move and stays reachable after, so you’re never passed between plugin vendors.
